Lots of professional sports raise their most well-known players to the magnitude of virtually deities, but possibly none of them achieve this with quite such panache as the game of basketball: To be a famous basketball player is to become a celebrity. We all know the Michael Jordans and Lebron Jameses yet what about those great unsung heroes that have helped shape the sport but for some reason or other have stayed below the radar? Possibly it's a good idea to bear in mind these guys.

Dennis Johnson is unquestionably such a player, his early basketball career was spent with the SuperSonics in Seattle. Throughout his period spent with the Celtics, he earned a bit of repute. His kind of playing was genuinely extraordinary however and he might have put many of todays ’big names’ to shame by using his tactical and intelligent strategies. His specialized method was really a refreshing to see and he surely could have given several of todays well known players a run for their money.Sadly , Dennis Johnson died of a heart attack in '07 but he most certainly left a strong heritage.

Another player that played with the SuperSonics at the start of his career and went on to exceed for many teams was Tom Chambers. Out of all the teams he played for throughout his career, he is best known for his time playing with the Phoenix Suns. His best talent was a a shooter and was responsible for many of the Suns wins.

The player who had the best free shooting average, Mark Price, surely makes a place on this list. He was most commonly known with regard to his time as a point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers but also notably played for Orlando Magic as well as the Golden State Warriors. Price Spent 12 seasons Ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers retiring his number.25 during '98, he played for 12 seasons for several squads like the Golden State Warriors as well as Orlando Magic. He has since then gone on to serve as a trainer for several all-star National basketball association teams.

Perhaps not many of us have overlooked the legacy of Kevin Johnson but he still deserves a mention: As a player for the Suns during the eighties and 1990's he received substantial recognition. He hung up his no.7 jersey in '98 and today works as the mayor of Sacramento.

Nicknamed 'the A Train' Artis Gilmore was a powerhouse athlete, recognized largely for his time with the Chicago Bulls. He scored well into double figures in just about every year of his playing career. He hung up his jersey officially in 89. He now takes an active role in contributing to the The city of jacksonville community.

And so we reach the end of the list. Indeed, it's not even close to a definitive list and there are definitely far more players that might feature here having said that I think these players should be re visited for thier contribution to the game. If there are any people you wish to see on this list, leave a message.
